So today’s review is for a set that almost got away from me: Anna Pardal’s Lady Grey (in the Doyenne Half Cup) ! When I heard of Anna Pardal’s tragic (and sudden) closing earlier this year, I was furious at myself for not ordering sooner. Luckily, the amazing Jaimie at Bra Obsessed convinced Comexim (Anna Pardal’s manufacturer) to continue to make Anna Pardal’s gorgeous styles. Even better, Anna Pardal styles can now be ordered at a discount: Jaimie sells them for $90 CAD ($69 USD). You can also order these styles directly from Comexim through email, or from Erika at A Sophisticate Pair.
Anyways, one of the amazing things about Comexim and Anna Pardal is their willingness to truly customize their bras to fit their customers. Comexim will basically do any modification that you dream of for no (or a nominal) additional fee. This is a dream for those of us with notoriously picky boobs! 🙂 The cut of bra I’m reviewing here is very, very similar to Comexim’s 3HC (their 3 part, 2 seam half cup).
This is what I ordered: Doyenne Half-cup (3HC) in 28FF with an overlapping gore and cookie pockets and the matching tap pant in an Anna Pardal size 1. I chose 28FF because Anna Pardal bands and cups tended to run a full size small. 28FF is also my previous Anna Pardal size for the Milk and Honey.
This cut of bra is about as close as you can come to an Ewa Michalak CHP if you prefer not to shop with her! The cups are very narrow and projected and should work well with both full on top and full on bottom breasts. The cups are slightly more closed off in the Doyenne half cup in comparison to the CHP. I do notice a a reduction in center projection in this cut in comparison to the CHP. I get a little bit of bubbling right next to the gore. It isn’t uncomfortable, but I can feel that I could use more room there. If you’re very center-full, you may wish to ask if there’s an alteration that can fix that, or simply order the CHP instead.
Look at those wonderful narrow wires! Ahh, Polish bras truly are the best! You can see here how the ribbon trim closes off the cup a bit. If you’re very full on top or tall rooted, you may wish to order this style without the ribbon. The cups are 4.8 inches (12.2 cm) wide and 8.7 inches (22.1 cm) deep. Interestingly enough, even though these cups are deeper than a CHP in 26FF, I find that they feel smaller. My guess is that this is due to the more closed off edge and reduced center projection. The cups on Lady Grey are 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall, and this is about .25-.5 of an inch (.64-1.27 cm) taller than those of Ewa Michalak’s CHP. Personally, I prefer the shorter cups because of my super short roots. I do get a bit of gaping by the strap in this bra.
I feel like Marie Antoinette in this bra with both the french pattern and the amazing cakes on a plate cleavage! The side profile is very rounded, and there’s a fair amount of immediate projection. The wires here are firm enough to stay put, but soft enough to be comfy. I love how Comexim bras typically have shorter wires on the sides. My armpits like a little breathing room! This is a bra I can forget about while wearing. The straps are a bit wide set for me, and I’ll probably as to have them moved in on my next Comexim order.
Look how elegant this set is! Seriously, I feel like royalty in it. The satin fabric is so luxe, especially for a bra at this price point! This set looks so much more expensive than it is. I’m glad I bought the matching panties, but I do have to point out that this is in no way a tap pant. A tap pant is generally a floaty lingerie short. I’m not sure why they chose to call this cut one, because to me it’s just a lower waisted bikini than their standard one. It doesn’t do anything remotely tap-pant like, but it is wonderfully seamless under exercise pants! The size 1 tap pant is a tiny bit tight on my 33-34 inch (83-86 cm) hips, and I don’t find them the most flattering thing I’ve ever put on my body. They’re very, very comfortable though 🙂
So you can see that the sides are a sort of shiny material in the mesh family. The front is slightly sheer, but the back is opaque.
So I think this view probably shows the cutting in on my hips the best. It’s not a huge amount, and I’m not sure that I could go up a size, but the elastic on the top is tighter than I’d prefer in an idea world. I do love that they’ve carried over a triangle of the satin onto the back of the tap pants. I found the bra to be actually, a bit loose for me which was a surprise. Lady Grey is known to run tight overall, so I’m honestly pretty shocked that mine stretches to 27.25 inches (69.2 cm). This is pretty true to size for a 28 band, but I’d still recommend sizing up in the band. A close friend of mine ordered a 30F in this same style, and hers only stretched to 26.5 inches (67.3 cm). I do absolutely love how the satin fabric is carried along the entire length of the band! It’s such a nice detail, and to me makes the set look much more luxurious. It does however mean that the band does not have very much stretch, and I think that’s the main cause of the band inconsistency. My Lady Grey has a 3×3 style, which I believe is standard for the model in this size range.
So here I’ve got it on with Cookie pads from an Ewa Michalak S model for a little extra cleavage! This bra fits too tightly in the cups for this to be an everyday look, but I love having the option for a night out. I highly recommend asking for cookie pockets as an alteration, because they’re free and add so much versatility. The pockets are quite large and could fit a variety of different pad sizes. They’re made of cotton, and feel wonderfully snuggly on my sensitive skin.
So overall, I’ve found a new favorite bra model in the Doyenne Half Cup/ Comexim 3HC! I’m delighted to order more from Comexim in the future, and hopefully fine-tune my alterations to get the perfect fit. If you’re looking into ordering Lady Grey, hurry! Because once Comexim runs out of the fabric the style will no longer be available.
Anna of Comexim, thank you for continuing to produce Anna Pardal’s designs! And thank you for your wonderful care of your customers <3
